My Best Girl (1927)




I had never seen a Mary Pickford picture before, but about five minutes into it I learned why she was "America's Sweetheart". The achingly cute Pickford plays a shopgirl who falls in love with the new boy at work...who isn't what he seems to be. Buddy Rogers was perfectly cast, with his boyish charm and bubbly personality, and the plot managed to be sweet without getting overly treacly. I was completely enamored with Pickford's acting style, larger-than-life facial expressions and all. Definitely recommended.
